We’re committed to being good neighbors and ensuring that our presence in Columbia contributes to a safer\, stronger community for everyone. \nKVC Missouri is a nonprofit organization committed to helping children and families thrive. Our services include youth mental health care\, therapeutic K–12 schools\, children’s residential treatment\, foster care\, family strengthening programs and so much more. We’re proud to be part of the Columbia community and to partner with neighbors\, local leaders\, caregivers and supporters to ensure every child and family receives the care they deserve. \n\nAt our open house\, you can: \n\nTake a tour and enjoy refreshments\nMeet the KVC Missouri Team\nGet an inside look at our programs and services\n\nTours start at 4:15 p.m. and depart every 15 minutes. Last tour starts at 5:30 p.m. \n\nAcross Columbia\, KVC provides exceptional children’s residential mental health treatment\, community-based services and therapeutic K-12 education services. Our team is dedicated to offering personalized care that meets the unique requirements of each child and their family. \n\nThe event is for business and community leaders as well as our neighbors and friends. Join us! \nMental Health Awareness Month: Building a Brighter Future for Children\nMay is Mental Health Awareness Month\, a time to reflect on the importance of mental health and wellbeing. For children\, mental health has become an increasingly critical issue. In today’s complex world\, more children across the country\, and right here in our region\, are experiencing depression\, anxiety and other trauma-related conditions than ever before. \nIn fact\, one in six youth aged 6-17 experiences a mental health disorder each year. Alarmingly\, suicide is now the second leading cause of death for children aged 10 to 14. These statistics highlight an urgent need for support and services tailored to the unique needs of young people. \nOur children are resilient\, but they can’t face these challenges alone. DESCRIPTION:May 20 – August 19 (Tuesdays)\nTime: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm\nLocation: KVC Niles\, 1911 E 23rd Street\, Kansas City\, MO 64127 \nWhat is Strong and Connected?\nIt is a skills-building program offered for free to children and families in Jackson County. All families go through tough times. Sometimes families face challenges that are too difficult to overcome without the support of a caring community. The Strong and Connected Program provides a path toward hope and healing for families. \nStrong and Connected is a nationally and internationally recognized evidence-based program. \nWho can participate?\nYouth 6-18 years and their families. Right now\, we are only able to accept referrals for families that live in Jackson County but as the program continues to grow\, we hope to open it up to other areas in the future. \nHow does it work?\nFamilies meet for two hours once a week for 14 weeks to share a meal – and then children and parents attend their own class to work on age-appropriate activities. Topics covered include\, but are not limited to: family communication\, family relationships\, child development\, and navigating barriers. \nWhat are some of the rewards?\n• We provide dinner every week for families\n• Childcare is provided for children not participating in the program\n• Transportation assistance is available upon request\n• Families receive incentives at each weekly meeting (ie. gift cards\, small gifts\, passes for community activities\, etc.)\n• Graduation ceremony at the end of the 14-week program \nIf you are interested in learning more about the class and enrolling\, you can complete your registration below. \nIf technology is a barrier or you have additional questions\, please contact Erin Huerta at: 913-329-4251 or ehuerta@kvc.org
