SUMMARY:Using the Brain Science to Understand and Implement Effective Interventions
DESCRIPTION:Using the Brain Science to Understand and Implement Effective Interventions \nDate: September 15  \nTime: 9 am – 4 pm \nLocation: CASA of the Southwest MO\n627 N. Glenstone\, Springfield\, MO 65802 \nToxic stress is a public health problem that affects every sector of society. This is especially true for children in foster care. \nTo be mentally healthy\, our brains acquire skills and knowledge in a sequential way through connections with caregivers. Trauma or stress can interrupt that sequencing. Over time\, social\, emotional\, and cognitive developmental gaps can result in a person being unable to effectively navigate their day. Understanding a person’s stress response system and circumstances that impact their functioning is critical when trying to support their growth and development. \nBrain science is a fast-growing area of focus for those working with individuals who have been exposed to childhood adversity. This training focuses on brain development\, how trauma disrupts the process\, and it will set the stage for developing trauma-informed\, developmentally sensitive treatment approaches. Emphasis is on methods of regulation\, environmental factors for successful therapeutic experiences\, and developmentally matched interventions. Participants will be more effective in helping families and children impacted by trauma. \nLunch is provided. We will break from 12 pm – 12:45 pm. \nContact Leslie Wiss\, MA\, LPC\, for more information  \nBackground: KVC\, CASA of Southwest Missouri (CASA)\, and the Missouri Alliance for Children and Families (MACF) are honored to be the recipient of the Jewell Schweitzer Collective Impact Grant. Through this opportunity\, we look forward to expanding knowledge on the impact trauma has on brain development and interventions to ensure children in foster care have the greatest opportunity possible. Over 150 members of Greene County will receive a full day of training and 20 children in care will receive an assessment and recommendations to guide the sequencing and selection of therapeutic interventions. \n[gravityform id=”21″ title=”true”] \nFunded by:

SUMMARY:The Cortex is Open for Business
DESCRIPTION:There has been a focus on regulating the child you foster\, then relating to them- now it is time to implement reasoning. Once the moment has settled and everyone is back in their thinking brain\, then and only then can the discussion begin. If your focus is on teaching skills\, then natural and logical consequences help you to achieve this goal. This course focuses in on how to recognize that the child you foster is ready for the reason stage and then ways to go about implementing consequences that help your child to build life skills.
