The Explosive Child (3 hours) – Virtual

Wednesday, January 24

Time: 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

This training shows parents how to respond to behaviors resulting from trauma like crying, screaming, swearing, kicking, hitting, and more. You will learn to teach children the problem-solving skills they are lacking using the Collaborative Problem-Solving model pioneered by Dr. Ross Greene, author of “The Explosive Child”.

Throughout this training, participants will delve into the core principles outlined in “The Explosive Child,” gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying reasons behind challenging behaviors in children. The program focuses on Greene’s Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, emphasizing empathy, collaboration, and problem-solving rather than traditional disciplinary approaches.

Key components of the training include exploring the philosophy and approach outlined in Greene’s model, understanding the root causes of challenging behaviors, and learning effective techniques to de-escalate conflicts and build a collaborative relationship with the child.

Participants will also gain practical skills in identifying and prioritizing a child’s unsolved problems, using the “Plan B” approach to collaboratively solve these problems, and fostering proactive strategies to prevent and address explosive episodes.

*This is an online class. You will receive an email with a Zoom link 24 hours prior to training from Foster Parent Training Specialist Kathy Haddock.  Make sure you have downloaded the zoom app onto your device and plan to sign in a few minutes early to work through any technical difficulties.
