STRONG – Pre-Service Training

Sibling Placement Part 2

Understanding Substance Use Disorders

April 13, 6-8 pm Between 2000 and 2016 the number of children in out-of-home placement due to parental substance use rose by 16%.  In 2016 the national average was 35% of all children in out-of-home placement were there due to parental substance use; however, in Missouri, that number was closer to 50%.  This training will help foster parents understand the continuum of substance use disorders, the various treatment methods, and the recovery process.

Balancing Needs Series – Adopted Children

April 15, 6-8 pm Our experiences influence our needs and behavior.  In this series, we will explore the complex needs of children that are adopted, in foster care, and biological. Each section of the 3-part series is independently structured but will also work together to provide participants with strategies to help them balance the differing needs of their children.

Laws, Policies, and Procedures Part 1 & 2

April 20 & 27 5:30pm - 8pm This two-part training is part of the required trainings for newly licensed foster parents.  This training will cover the various legal aspects of concurrent case planning, ICPC processes, grounds for termination of parental rights, and prohibitions on placements.  We will also discuss requirements regarding relative placements and how these impact foster parents.  Foster parents must attend both sessions during the first two years of licensure.

Food Hoarding

April 22, 6-8 pm Many children that come into foster care, experienced food insecurity in their family of origin. This can often lead to behaviors of food hoarding, "stealing" or hiding food, or pocketing food after placement in foster care. In this training, participants will learn the science behind food hoarding in children, and real-life tools for helping the children in their home develop healthier eating habits.

Cognitive Behavioral Interventions
