Thousands of Missouri Children and Families Are Suffering. Here’s How KVC Missouri Helps.

According to Missouri KIDS COUNT, nearly 228,000 Missouri children live in poverty, making it more difficult for their families to meet their needs. Many families also experience serious challenges such as mental illness, substance use, family discord, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, parental incarceration, and inadequate support networks of family and friends to weather life’s storms.

KVC Missouri is a private, nonprofit organization that includes KVC Niles and a range of new community-based services for children and families. Our team of professionals collaborate with a wide range of partners from state leaders to community members, and advance child and family wellbeing in measurable, meaningful ways. KVC Missouri is a part of KVC Health Systems, a family of nonprofit organizations working to ensure every child is safe and connected to a strong family and a healthy community.

Services We Provide

Children’s Residential Mental Health Treatment
At KVC Missouri’s residential treatment campuses in Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia, and St. James, youth receive intensive clinical services in a home-like environment with 24-hour supervision and support from our trained clinicians and staff. Youth learn emotion regulation and coping skills and practice the skills they are learning while enjoying fun and educational community outings. Our primary goal is to help each child safely transition back to their community with improved emotion regulation and cognitive processing skills.

Day Treatment / K-12 Therapeutic Academies
KVC’s day treatment services are provided to students at our K-12 private schools approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education. This trauma-informed school provides education and therapy to youth through personalized treatment goals; individual, group and family therapy; and small classroom sizes. Our academies offers youth with a place to heal, change, and grow, and a place where learning is fun.

Intensive Outpatient Program
KVC’s Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for families where youth are experiencing greater behavioral and mental health difficulties than what traditional outpatient services can provide. The purpose of this program is to provide intensive and focused short term clinical services to youth so families can safely stay together and prevent out-of-home care. This program improves youth relational abilities that will correlate to family, school and community life. The format focuses on group activities and skill building and also includes individual support for the child as well as family therapy and parent education and support groups.

Intensive Family Services
The Intensive Family Services program is designed for youth who are struggling at home or in the
community and are at risk for residential care or who are transitioning out of residential care into the home or community. IFS services will wrap around the youth and family by providing community- and homebased clinical wrap-around services. The IFS program will also serve youth who are transitioning out of residential care and who need continued support and stabilization as they are reintegrated back into the community.

Strong and Connected
The Strong and Connected Program provides a path toward hope and healing for families. It is a nationally and internationally recognized evidence-based intervention. Depending on its implementation, Strong and Connected acts as an effective family preservation and reunification service. It is a 14-week family program that brings families together for a meal and weekly skill building in areas such as family communication, parent supervision, family attachment, child development, parental substance use and understanding risk and protective factors to avoid substance use.

Treatment Foster Care
The Treatment Foster Care Program is a form of specialized foster care that provides individualized therapeutic interventions to children with significant medical, developmental, emotional, or behavioral needs who require a higher level of care. The program provides caregivers with additional supports to allow youth in foster care with elevated needs to be successful in a community-based family setting.
