Our nonprofit has a legacy of caring that stretches back to the early 1800s. KVC Missouri offers crisis services to help children and families experiencing a mental health or behavioral health crisis. Our team can provide support, help stabilize the situation and connect families with appropriate ongoing care. 

If your child is experiencing an immediate medical or life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. KVC Missouri crisis services are not a substitute for emergency medical care. 

If your child needs more intensive support than their current services provide, KVC Missouri can help connect them with the appropriate level of care. Depending on your child’s needs, this may include more intensive services, outpatient treatment or residential care.

The timeline for starting services depends on your child’s needs, the type of service recommended and program availability. KVC Missouri works to connect children and families with appropriate care as quickly as possible. 

The right level of care depends on your child’s unique needs, symptoms, safety and response to previous treatment. KVC Missouri offers a continuum of care, from outpatient and community-based services to intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential treatment. 

Residential treatment provides intensive, 24/7 therapeutic care for youth who need more support than can be provided through outpatient services. KVC Missouri offers both Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs) and Qualified Residential Treatment Programs (QRTPs). 

• PRTF: Provides intensive, crisis-focused treatment to help youth stabilize, with a typical stay of 60–90 days.  

• QRTP: Provides rehabilitative services in a home-like setting, with a typical stay of 90–180 days, focused on helping youth transition back to the community.  

Treatment is trauma-informed, strength-based and focused on helping youth build healthy relationships and skills for long-term success. 

KVC Missouri offers different levels of mental health care based on each child’s needs: 

• Outpatient: Youth live at home and attend scheduled mental health sessions while continuing their daily routines.  

• IOP: Provides more frequent, short-term treatment while youth continue living at home and staying connected to school and family.  

• PHP: Provides structured, intensive daytime treatment while youth return home each evening.  

• Residential: Provides 24/7 therapeutic care for youth who need a higher level of support in a structured setting.  

• Inpatient: Provides 24/7 hospital-based psychiatric and medical care for youth experiencing an acute mental health crisis.  

The goal is to provide the right level of support at the right time, with youth transitioning to less intensive care as they are ready. 

The KVC Missouri Children’s Mental Wellness Campus in Webster Groves brings together a comprehensive continuum of children’s mental health services in one connected campus. The campus includes a new, state-of-the-art 77-bed children’s mental health hospital with 65 inpatient beds and 12 residential beds, as well as a fully renovated outpatient treatment center, opening in December 2026.

The campus is a collaboration between KVC Health Systems, Camber Mental Health and St. Louis Children’s, helping children and families access coordinated care as their needs change.

The campus offers multiple levels of care to support children and teens throughout their mental health journey, including:

• In-home prevention and education

• Outpatient therapy and community-based services
• Kinship and foster care
• Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
